Couple questions

Post by topdown »

I would like to know a little more about how it works :

Does this script install a new set of phpBB3 files in each account
or does it run on one set for all accounts?

Can I run a non live copy on my local host?
I am quite familiar with phpBB3, I develop my own mods and styles and
also install many other mods.

I always do this on my local for many reasons, I'm sure you know what I mean

So basically I like to do the builds on my local and then when ready update it to the live server.

How hard is it to transfer the hosting site from one server to another?

Is it just packing up the database and reinstalling on the new server?

Just wondering because I probably will only be able to run it a short time before needing to get a full dedicated server.
So I kinda want to know what I am in for.

If it's just the database, then it should be a piece of cake, as long as its not encrypted per install.

Just copy files and database, and make sure directories and files that should be writable are writable after move. Script isn't encrypted and it doesn't get attached to server during installation, so it can easily be copied.

I suggest to get small VPS instead of using shared hosting, as most VPS providers can scale it up to full dedicated server whenever you need it so you won't have to move website. I've been using servint.com for that when I used to run image hosting service (and this website currently runs on same vps, but scaled down since I don't need lots of cpu power anymore) - they scale vps quickly without any downtime at all.

Thanks for your help, Purchase made ;) .

If I end up not hosting, I'll just call it a donation for all your hard work on the script
